social time

i assert that time zones, as we know them, are insufficient to deliver the time services that the american people are entitled to. they are too big, and they cost too much to the working man. they have become inefficient because they think they are "too big to fail." as a result, the typical awake or asleep citizen is forced to go without caring one whit for time zones, unless they want to submit themselves to be embarrassingly subject to one, sometimes two, times of the day.

what we need, is better competition. and we can have it! yes we can. to foster competition in the marketplace, i will ask congress to introduce legislation to create a public option time zone: social time (STZ). this time zone will meet the needs of the needy. it will reduce costs in the system. if you don't want to spend a lot of time using the time zone you already have, you can switch, but if you like your time, that's okay, too.

let's say you already get your time through your employer. well, you can keep that. what you pay in taxes for the privilege of the time you feel is better will not change. the public option time zone, though furiously competing in order to reduce costs, will go unnoticed by you.

for those who opt in, instead, my time zone legislation will allow for it to be any time of the day at any time of the day. if you are a state employee in california, for example, and you are on furlough, the public option time zone will allow you to go back to work for five full days every week, fourty weeks every year, just like you had at this time last year. if you are being given four hours of work four days a week in your current time zone, you'll just file the paperwork necessary with your provider to make the time you go to work 9am STZ, and the time you leave 5pm STZ.

by putting everybody back to work at the beginning of the day in the time zone of their choice, and back home to be with the family at the end of the day in that same zone, employment will be increased, and the boost in tax revenue will help us afford the cost of the program. everybody knows, we don't want to raise taxes, we want to raise employment.

so, based on what i have presented here today, let us do it for ourselves. let us create a time that is any time to any one, whenever they want, a universal time. it is all we can do to ensure prosperity, to demand an alternative to the monolithic and inefficient times of the past, which itself can instead become the now. or the future, if you like.
